Tribute Series Chard under the Christmas Tree!

Our Tribute Series Chard is on Darren Oleksyn’s Christmas list! Calgary Herald writer and wine columnist chose our wine as one that he’d like to see beneath the Christmas tree this year!

Four wines for beneath the Christmas Tree, by Darren Oleksyn, Calgary Herald, December 6th, 2013

Meyer Family Vineyards, 2011 Tribute Series Chardonnay — Winnifred Mary Stewart

Born and raised in Calgary, Jak Meyer’s Okanagan Falls, B.C., winery produces some of Canada’s top red and white wines. This Chardonnay is one of them. But its attributes go beyond what’s in the bottle. Each year the Tribute Chardonnay is dedicated to an outstanding Canadian.

This year’s honoree is Winnifred Stewart, an Edmonton woman who started a school for mentally challenged children. As part of the five-year tribute program, a $1,000 bursary will be offered annually to a student in the disabilities studies program at MacEwan University in Edmonton for the next five years.

As for what’s in the wine, the flavours include quince, vanilla, melon, stewed pineapple and a bit of tarragon. It’s medium bodied, with wonderful balance and a long finish.

Price: About $35. It’s available at Highlander Wine and Spirits, Liquor Depot at Brentwood, Midtown Calgary Co-op Wine Spirits Beer and Bin 905.

Drink: Now, or age it five years. Try it by itself or with soufflé, white fish dishes or poultry. Cork; 13.5 per cent alc./vol.
